© DARE to be SAFE ~ You will feel extremely safe when you fly with Chris at Air Creation in Australia.
Take a journey First Class... in Australia's most experienced delta flexwing classroom..!!

Here in Australia and overseas, Chris is highly regarded in the flexwing microlight industry and was instrumental in making trikes legal in Australia. With his vast experience in student pilot instruction, aircraft certification, maintenance and flexwing knowledge - you will feel confident and secure flying with Chris.

Information Skills Processing... is a simple training philosophy, designed and published by Chris in 1996, which is based upon sound proven principles of military flight instruction. The Information Skills Processing method is integrated with the unique instructional concept © DARE to be SAFE. This accurate, precise and unique process of instruction, defines all aspects of learning to fly a microlight safely - and gives you sound knowledge of why, how, when or where you are required to make a command decision or action.

The procedural technique of instruction ~ Demonstrate, Attempt, Revise and Evaluate, allows you to understand exactly where you are in your training phase ~ DARE.

Obviously, learning to fly maybe complex, but not too difficult. The 'DARE' process allows a particular flying component to be - Demonstrated by the instructor, Attempted by the student, Revised until the flying component is performed accurately - and prior issue of first solo or pilot certificate, Examined - to confirm the student's ability to perform a flight component with confidence and accuracy.

To monitor your instructional progress ~ Skills, Ability, Flying and Examination - SAFE - is a four stage method to confirm your decisional skills, procedural skills, flying ability and airmanship. Written examinations on airfield procedures, weather, aerodynamics and associated systems all contribute to allow you to.. Aviate in Safety..!!

This superior method of flight training instruction is purely simple and exact. Information Skills Processing is not 'push here and this happens' - the decisional process starts in the brain... the hands and feet are just slabs of meat, doing what the brain tells them to do! You can go to our downloads and discover more on this topic.

© DARE to be SAFE ~ Knowledge gives you choices... Choices allow you to decide... Decisions give you results.... and Information Skills Processing allows you to maintain your flight path, control your aircraft's attitude and manage your cockpit... it's the answer to - Flying Accurately..!!

A little history...
Aileron Station is owned by Simone's parents, Garry & Barbara Dann who purchased the property 5 years ago.... it is a rich and fertile parcel of land that has huge potential for agriculture and diversification.

Steeped in history... the family property was originally owned by Simone's great grandfather - Mr Fred Colsen in the early 30's - when the Aileron Homestead was built.

In honor of Fred and his wife, Elsie Colsen - we presently have the fifth generation of children running around having fun and learning the laws of nature. These pioneering partners arrived in Central Australia... after the long and arduous journey from Adelaide to Alice Springs.... which was achieved by contracting to build the culverts along the railway line.

"...... a team of twenty five men, camels and one woman... true pioneering history..!"

For all the Historian buffs... our website will soon have a comprehensive library devoted to the wonderful and truly amazing stories of the early explorations achieved by these remarkable pioneering families...!

Professional instruction will give you the skills to make informed decisions - aircraft are not difficult to fly, its just that flying can be complex, and you fly in the natural changing atmosphere..air.!! Correct YES or NO decisions about your flight path management, aircraft maintenance or the air in which you fly.. can be the difference between the pilots that are flying today..and those that are not. That's the truth.. Good Decisions will give you amazing flights ~ Safely.!

Q:
Do I need a licence to fly a microlight?

A:
Yes. You do need a Pilot Certificate - a sport aircraft type licence. The RA-Aus will issue your Pilot Certificate once your Chief Flying Instructor has confirmed you are able to fly safely, correctly and responsibly. Usually 20 hours of flight time instruction with similar briefing hours, and you will need to pass - Rules of the Air and Basic Aeronautical Knowledge examinations.

Q:
Can I do Joy Flights with my microlight?

A:
NO..you are not allowed to conduct any commercial flying activities unless your a qualified instructor operating an RA-Aus approved flight training facility.

Q:
Can I take my family and friends flying with me?

A:
Yes. Once you have attained your Pilot Certificate, you will need to have conducted 25 hours of logged flying time, pass a written Passenger Endorsement exam and a check flight to allow you to share your flying experiences.

Q:
Can I fly anywhere I want to in a microlight?

A:
Almost everywhere...you must operate in accordance with the requirements of CAO 95.32. Basically, you can fly up to 5000 ft AMSL, in certain types of Airspace, from licenced aerodromes and private land with land owners permission. To fly on Controlled Airspace you will require approval and a transponder and it will require appropriate procedures. If you fly G Airspace its a lot more fun, less traffic and less effort in airspace procedures.

Q:
Do I need a VHF radio to fly my microlight?

A:
No, BUT...it is safer if you have a VHF radio fitted and you are able to communicate with other aviators in the airspace you are flying. Some airports the use of VHF radios is mandatory and some its not. Would you drive your car at night without your headlights switched on..? Make it safe and you will have more fun.
Back to top of FAQ
Q:
Can I fly in the rain and on windy days?

A:
Yes you can fly in the rain with Air Creation's Trilam UV resistant top surface wing fabric. Most microlights will handle about 20-25 knots of wind before flying becomes uncomfortable. Different wings like the iXESS and KISS are more suitable for stronger windy conditions, also it is more about the quality of the air, rather than the quantity - your ability as pilot in command will also need to be considered when you fly in wind conditions above 25-30 knots.
Back to top of FAQ
Q:
When will I do my first solo flight?

A:
You may be authorised by your instructor to fly solo anytime within your flight training schedule - some pilots have flown solo at 6 hours, others at 36 hours. It will purely be up to you and your instructor to make that informed decision...but you will know when you are ready. Always do your first solo in smooth stable conditions, in a familiar microlight and from a location where you know all the procedures for emergency. Good luck.

Q:
Do I need a aviation medical to fly a microlights?

A:
No. A motor vehicle licence equivalent medical standard is common at present in sport aviation. If you wish to fly commercial in sport aviation, the RA-Aus has a medical report to be completed by an Approved Medical Examiner.
Back to top of FAQ
Q:
Can I maintain and service my own microlight aircraft?

A:
Yes. You can maintain your own machine. Your instructor should give you basic aircraft assembly, care & maintenance instruction with your pilot certificate tuition. You can obtain further training on engines and airframes by the manufacturers and importers.
